nervous...

Hi guys!
Well, I have had a really crazy week so I have not been able to blog as much as I would like...
Anyway, I hope everyone has had a good week. Mine has been so great. The grandmother of the girls I keep is in town and is so awesome. So I have loved having her helping hand!
I am really excited for this weekend coming up. This weekend is Focus weekend at Westlake hills pres. Focus is similar to a disciple now weekend. It is an in town retreat for high school and middle school students. It is such a fun and amazing weekend. When I worked at whpc, I was kind of in charge of focus. It was really stressful...But, this year, I just get to help and not be in charge, which I am so excited for! I am leading the senior house and cant wait to spend time with those precious students. But, i am really nervous...Focus is basically junk food weekend. I will be in a house surrounded by junk food. So I am trying to figure out what my best approach is..here are my options:
1. Throw my program out the window and eat whatever I want...(not really an option, but could happen...)
2. Eat nothing junky. Avoid avoid avoid. I will probably get irritable. But probably my best option.
3. Have some of what i want. But portion it. The worry here is that i will end up stuffing my face because i am not good at stopping.

All of these options set me up for failure. And I really don't know what to do. Any suggestions? Help!!!

  1. Bring your favorite healthy snack to pull out when everyone else is grabbing the junk food. But maybe allow yourself 1 splurge/treat per day so you don't feel left out or trapped. =) Hope its fun!

  2. I agree with Laura. Pack some healthy snacks for you that you can much on (apples and peanut butter, your devil's food cake muffins, sugar free gum to keep your mouth occupied for longer stretches, etc). I have a tough weekend ahead of me too - friends in town for a Death by Chocolate event (wine and all you can eat chocolate. What's a girl to do?), book club with goodies and wine galore and a 3 year olds b-day party complete with gluten free cake, ice cream and other various snacks. I remember Focus weekend from when I was a senior and I do remember all of the goodies that were there too. Remember that the FOCUS of this weekend should be God, not food! Good luck at staying strong; I know it will be hard! Just remember how amazing it'll feel Monday morning to write a blog and report back to us about how great you did, how strong your willpower was and how you trusted in God to help you get through the temptations of the weekend. I have faith in you :)

  3. Remember, God doesn't put anything in front of you that you can't handle! Believe in Him because he believes in you!!

  4. Hey friend! First of all, I highly suggest that you don't cheat yourself. For me, I tend to binge if I avoid too much. So, let yourself enjoy a little but be willing to work hard to work it off. Another suggestion is a little "twist" to WW! I've tried it and it works like a champ. I do not think it is set to the new points system though. It is called the "Wendie Plan" and it basically takes your weekly point allotment (all totaled) and divides it up over the week with high point days and low point days. That way, it all balances out but you get to enjoy along the way. Check it out- http://www.stormpc.com/ww/wendie_plan.htm

  5. Hey Whitney! First of all, I love reading your blog. I'm one of Becca's sorority sisters from college and am in seminary now in Louisville, KY. I JUST got back from a FOCUS-esque weekend at the church I work at and it was HARD. One night I did give in to the 11 pm pizza making...but what was really important for me was forgiving myself the next day and understanding that each day is a new day to live a life faithful (in body, mind and soul) to God who has given me a body to live in!

Hope that helps. Will be thinking of you!
    Peace,
    Elaine

  6. I went to a women's retreat last weekend and took "cuties" (little tangerines) and the one-point bags of microwave popcorn. They totally did the trick, and I didn't come home feeling like Jabba the Hut! With God, all things are possible!
